John Gould Anthony* (1804-05-17 - 1877-05-16) person
American businessman; moved to Cincinnati in 1834 and took up the study of shells, primarily freshwater molluscs. He corresponded with Louis Agassiz, who brought him to the MCZ as curator of the conchology (now malacology) collection in 1863, a position which he held until his death in 1877. He participated in the 1865-1866 Thayer Expedition to Brazil.
