  • Hobbs, 1974: 38, lists only MCZ 289 as syntypes, but Hagen lists MCZ 170 in original description. Entered into catalog by Faxon as "Cambarus rusticus var. placidus Fax." MCZ catalogue lists 5 specimens; type card states that 1 is on loan to USNM. Original description lists 12+ specimens. Examined by Chris Taylor, Illinois Nat. Hist. Survey, 15.iv.1994, and determined not to be Orconectes placidus (Hagen). "The largest male (form II) in MCZ 289 is not Orconectes placidus; it appears to be one of MCZ 170 [Texas] that has been mixed up at some point (agrees with other MCZ 170 specimens in chela dimensions and denticle pattern). 12.vi.2000 William J. Poly & James E. Wetzel". See e-mail from Poly, dated 11.i.2001 According to Poly & Wetzel, 2003 (Jour. Crust. Biol. 23 (2):384) 3 MI specimens in MCZ 170 are not O. placidus. The MII specimen is O. placidus.
