Current Identification
Animalia Chordata Reptilia Lepidosauromorpha Squamata Sauria Iguanidae
Common Name(s): Armoured Anole
Nature of ID: expert ID
Remarks: Mosaic of traits of Anolis armouri and Anolis cybotes cybotes. Schwartz (1989) describes this phenomenon in the Anolis armouri from this disturbed region, and speculates that they are intergrades. Small body size, dark chin, dorsal pattern, and adjacent suboculars and supralabials in several lizards all suggest Anolis armouri. Dewlap looks more like cybotes, although both taxa are highly variable. Smooth ventrals, but both taxa usually have this. Collected by Haitians (locality unknown, but within a short walk) and given to us at edge of pine forest after we ascended from a nearby patch of decicuous forest. Looked more like armouri than cybotes in hand, although a tough call.
