Allen 1874, page 291, Syntype of Spermophilus tridecemlineatus var. pallidus J. A. Allen, 1874 MCZ 2663 part of original type series examined by J. A. Allen (confirmed in G. M. Allen's 1931 MCZ type catalog, p. 253). Specimen no longer name-bearing, however, after designation of lectotype for taxon as USNM 16237 by Howell, 1938. MCZ 2663 has thus lost syntype status and is now relegated to paralectotype. This citation is for the purpose of documenting the specimen's history.
Coues and Allen 1877, page 877, Other Useful Citation of Spermophilus tridecemlineatus var. pallidus J. A. Allen, 1874 taxon was first described in Allen 1874 (which was a digest of this later publication), but taxon description was expanded on in this publication and specimens examined were listed by number. MCZ 2663 is mentioned by its original number, 1210, on p. 877, in table CXXI of external measurements. Also cited as material examined for description of S. t. var. pallidus in table on p. 880, where it is mentioned by its MCZ catalog number.

Howell herein designates USNM 16237 as the lectotype for this taxon. MCZ 2663 has thus lost syntype status and is now relegated to paralectotype.
