Name Authority: Mammal Species of the World

Remarks: subgenus Pipistrellus. Wilson and Reeder note: "Different authors have misspelled this name in a variety of ways, dropping the first 'e', second 'p', second 'l', or second 'i'. The original, correct spelling is "rueppellii". This taxon is not to be confused with Scoteanax rueppellii (=Scoteinus rueppellii in MCZ) aka Rüppell's Broad-nosed Bat, which is a separate species with the same specific epithet.
